Both Iceland and Denmark can relate to the absolutely terrible weather both countries have. Apart from the weather situation we can also both relate to a strong sense of proudness when it comes to our national sports. We never shy away from our own nations, and will always be proud of our representatives! The Danes can‘t relate to the Icelandic view on the respective countries‘ nature. Especially since most of Denmark‘s nature is created by humans.
Though the view on nature on land is very different both Countries take great pride in their work on the seas. Both countries have also managed to get great sources of clean water, which is important to both of them. Both countries are proud of their farming but for Iceland it‘s more important that they through farming are a self-sufficient nation, where in Denmark people just like the farms. Both countries see them selves as safe nations, but Iceland is definitely the country with lowest crime rate. Healthcare is great in both countries because of the welfare-system. Denmark sees itself as a forerunner for other bigger countries and its clear to see in the political debate. In Iceland it doesn't affect the political scene as much but they do take some pride in their leading DNA research, sustainable energy and gender equality.
Denmark have a strong bike culture and Iceland has a car culture. Denmark is proud of their old flag and nation. The alcohol culture is very different between the two countries. In Denmark we stat drinking from an early age where in Iceland it is very restricted. For both countries it is also very important that their history can be connected to the vikings. Iceland and Denmark do share a common sense of viking-hood and are proud nations despite how small both countries are. And ultimately it's the vikings that connect the two countries.
